MY MOST DISLIKED HIGH STREET FOUNDATIONS

Thursday 10 March 2016

If you've been reading my blog for a while you will know by now how much of a foundation hoarder I am. At the moment I have over twenty different foundations (shocking, I know!), both high end and high street.

There is a few foundations that I love, some that are OK and others that I hate and I never use them. I promise I will get rid of the ones I don't like when I move house and I do a proper de-cluttering session, until then, they'll  just be sitting at the bottom of the drawer I never open.

For today's post I thought I'd share two foundations that so many people rave about that I really didn't like. Disagreeing with other bloggers is hard! I mean, I bought these two foundations because of other bloggers recommended them and I really don't want to upset anybody with this post, as we all know, products don't work the same on everybody and these two just didn't work for me!

The two products that I'm talking about are the Maybelline Fit Me and the Rimmel Wake Me Up foundations.
Surprisingly, most of the reasons why I don't like these foundations are the same on both even tho they seem to be very different products! Let's start by seeing how these two foundations are described by their brand.

Maybelline Fit Me
Flawless. Lets the real you come through
Beyond Matching: Fresh, Breathing, Natural Skin
SPF 18

Rimmel Wake Me Up
Rimmel Wake Me Up Make Up Foundation Light, moisturizing texture applies smoothly and leaves skin feeling soft and comfortable all day. Gives an instant flawless, natural-looking finish.Wake Up & Glow!

Both of them claim to have a natural looking finish which to me it's one of the main keys for a foundation to be good. I don't like looking cakey so I always look for foundations that feel light on the skin but with good coverage (i.e YSL Fusion Ink). Fit Me felt super thin and watery when applying it and it didn't cover any imperfections whatsoever. Wake Me Up felt the complete opposite, it felt thick and drying which shocked me as I had read in previous reviews that it was very hydrating and great for dry/dull skin. Neither of them covered my redness and both of them looked different shades a few minutes after applying it.

Both foundations made me look slightly orange after wearing them a while even tho I thought I matched my color well at the store, once applied on the face was a different story. Fit Me and Wake Me Up also made my face look not glowy but patchy and sweaty looking. Wake Me Up specially made me feel like I had just come out of a Twilight movie!

These two products also felt tacky on my skin even after applying powder and they both made me break out and had problematic skin while testing them. I noticed the skin on my face changed a lot (for worse) while using them!

Overall, I really disliked both of these foundations. I really don't get the hype they got last year when literally everybody was talking such good things about them! I don't particularly have sensitive skin yet they seemed to really affect me.

Have you tried either of these foundations? Do you like them or do you agree with me that these aren't worth the hype?

  2. I honestly feel like foundation is one thing that is worth investigating and spending the money on. My main problem with both of these is neither matches my skin tone (I am pale & yellow based) so it really does make life a nightmare. But I found the rimmel wake me up to be too sheeny... like glittery. Maybe it was just me lol

  3. Thank you so much for this review! It's difficult disagreeing with bloggers, especially when a product is so widely praised. I was very tempted to try out the Fit Me foundation based on all the reviews, but upon visiting my nearest drugstore, I noticed that the shade range is very limited...nothing looked like the right shade for me, which was very disappointing.

  4. I wasn't a fan of the wake me up foundation either as well as the match perfection one by rimmel. I found it so thick and heavy on my skin and I'd always break out after wearing it. Also, it was far to scented for me.

  5. I swatched the rimmel wake me up once and the back of my hand was so glittery when I went outside in the sun, which isn't the natural glow that you would want your whole face to have

  6. I wasn't a fan of the Rimmel Match Perfection Foundation, or the Maybelline Better Skin Foundation. I have really pale skin and I found the latter to be very orange for my skin, even though I bought the lightest shade in the range!

  8. The only high street foundation I like it Loreal True Match, the rest have been a nightmare for my pale skin. It's a shame about that Fit Me one though, the packaging looks kinda pretty (I'm so shallow!)

  9. Two to give a miss I think, I'm always wary of Loreal foundation as haven't ever used one I've loved.
