NIVEA MEN POST SHAVE BALM AS A PRIMER

Monday 14 December 2015

Months ago I heard Nikki Tutorials talk about this product as a primer. If you watch her videos you'll know that she uses it all the time but it wasn't until my favorite girl Kathleen Lights mentioned it too that I decided to get it and give it a go! Nivea Men Post Shave Balm has been talked about so much and most of the reviews I've seen or read rave about it so I there was no way I could go any longer without trying it.

First thing I noticed about this aftershave (ehem, primer) is the packaging. This is a glass bottle and it looks a lot more expensive than what it actually is. There isn't many women's products with a glass bottle out there unless you're paying over £100 for a very good face cream, so I was very impressed. The only problem about the packaging is that it doesn't have a pump and I wish it did because it's hard to get just a little bit of product out. The first time I tried it I didn't know how the consistency was going to be so I literally got my whole hand covered in product within a second, which takes me to the next section, the consistency.

This balm is super runny! It almost feels like how milk would feel if it was slightly thicker. The smell is very strong at the beginning and there isn't any other way to explain it but that it smells very manly! It's a very good smell (well, if you like a man who smells good kind of smell) but it does go after a few minutes so don't worry, you wont go smelling like a dude!

This product is super hydrating and it's for sensitive skin. I have sensitive skin and it didn't break me out which is great. You also don't need much product which is great cuz' it means a bottle of this will last a good few months.

Now, how does it work with make up? Does it really work as a primer? I have been using it for a couple of weeks now and I can now say it does work. Here's my thoughts:

When I apply this I notice my foundation goes a lot smoother and there's less strikes. It grabs the foundation without making it cling to the dry patches.

I have also noticed it helps with oil control. Generally I have dry skin but after a long day I notice my T-zone starts getting oily and this balm/primer helps a lot. My forehead is not as shiny when I use this product.

The only thing I find this primer doesn't help much with is with the pores. I have huge pores on my cheeks and this doesn't hide them as much as a pore minimizer primer would do.

Overall, I completely understand and agree why everybody loves this product because it is really good and it's probably better than any other primer that you might find for the same price. I recommend that you look for comparison between Boots and Superdrug as Boots were selling it for £5.99 and Superdrug had an offer on for £2.99 when I got it!

Have you tried the Nivea Men Post Shave Balm? Do you also agree with the thousands of people raving about it?

  1. I keep hearing great things about this, I'll have to give it a try! I have quite oily skin so if it helps with oil control it'd be great! x

  2. I bought this after Nikkie Tutorials recommended it too, and I don't LOVE it because I have lots of pores which it doesn't quite smooth over but it's definitely better than wearing nothing. Such a bargain, too! x

  7. I purchased this product when she first mentioned it also :)
I agree, its pretty good for the price, but I have dry skin so I prefer more velvety/silicone based primers. In saying that...the primer I'm using right now is $70 aud soo.....I can't really make any complaints about Nivea haha.
